Remodeling the Attic Space - part 2

Or, What a difference a week makes!

I got back late last night after having been gone for five days. I had gotten updates from my remodeling contractor, Ben, about the project but seeing the work he and his team have done is nothing like reading emails about it.

Wow. After only a week I've gone from a solid roof line …

and a narrow, peaked ceiling attic room …

to a very large hole in my roof …

back to another solid, water-tight roof line …

with a much wider room with a much flatter ceiling.

The work the team has done is impressive. The outer wall is framed for the windows but is covered with plywood. The windows are scheduled to arrive a week from tomorrow so until that time all the work will be done inside --

framing the wall between the bedroom and bathroom, prepping for the pocket door, etc. -- and there is no concern over weather since the roof is entirely shingled with flashing installed, etc.

The radon venting pipe has been run into the eave of the first floor and then routed into the dormer wall and up through the roof, just another example (of many) of how the project is being integrated nicely into the existing building by Ben and his crew.

This is all shaping up well and I'm looking forward to the next stages of construction.
