DaveTour 2007 Take 2 Update (5)

Everyone,

There won't be much to this update. I drove all day yesterday and while the scenery was great, I didn't stop to take many pictures.

I drove through Yellowstone and was reminded again of its beauty, status as the first National Park, and the draw that it has to masses of people. It was busy, busy. And lots of people have the habit of just stopping in the road and leaving their cars when they see animals (which are in abundance, of course) even if there are pullouts everywhere for their use.

I made it to Grand Teton just at sunset as I had hoped and was able to get a few shots as the sun went down. They are at http://www.dave-tech.com/f/DaveTour2007T2GrandTeton and I hope I'll be able to make a panorama of a few of them. The last few of these show the Cascade River Canyon where I hiked three years ago ( http://www.dave-tech.com/f/DaveTour2004GrandTeton ) and which I have often described as probably my favorite hike ever.

I'm heading back into the park shortly. It has been raining (and may still be just a bit) and it is 45 out. The forecast is rain occasionally through the day with a high of 57 The weather is damp and cool but I think I have the proper gear for what I expect I'll find. I'll find out soon enough.

I plan to stop at the information station to get recommendations on hikes but may end up taking the ferry across Jenny Lake to do the same canyon hike again. I'll just have to see when I get there. If this hotel is any indication, there will be no one else in the park today under 65, unlike Glacier, and no one looking to hike, also unlike Glacier. I'm expecting to find the trails pretty empty; we'll see if I'm proven wrong.

When I checked in last night, I extended the reservation for another day so I plan to be here at least tonight, too.
