DaveTour 2010 Begins
This past Sunday I caught the train in La Plata, Missouri, and headed southwest to Flagstaff, Arizona. My brother was with me but I'm still going to call it DaveTour 2010.
We plan to spend a few days in the Grand Canyon area -- where I am now -- then head to Los Angeles to see our niece. We'll then leave LA and fly to Kalispell, Montana, and spend the week in Whitefish, just outside of Glacier National Park. After that we'll catch the train to Chicago, spend a day there, then take the train back to La Plata. read more »
Midtown Skyline
On Saturday, I took pictures in Piedmont Park and the surrounding area while the Paul McCartney concert was being set up. (The full set of the Atlanta pictures is here.)
I decided to post a better view of the Midtown Atlanta skyline. read more »
Virginia-Highland
A couple of days this week I walked around my neighborhood in Atlanta, Virginia-Highland or often simply "the Highlands", taking pictures (the full set is here). I've been trying to come up with a way to convey a sense of the area to those who don't know it. I'm not quite sure how to do that … but I'll give it a shot.
The neighborhood was developed in the mid 1920's and is named for the intersection of the two streets, Virginia Avenue and North Highland Avenue, at its heart. It is more or less the eastern half of the map I posted in my earlier blog and the Google map in the post has the neighborhood name shown right at that intersection. This is what Wikipedia has to say about Virginia-Highland. read more »
New Atlanta Residence
Well, at last it has happened. I found – and bought – a place in Atlanta. It's in Virginia-Highland (aka The Highlands), my old neighborhood, and I'm very pleased with it. It's in the first complex (the blue marker) I described in my earlier write up. read more »
DaveTour 2009 Final Update and Summary
Columbia, Missouri
I got home Saturday night, June 13th. DaveTour 2009 is over. I drove 3165 miles and got as far away as St. George, Utah, (about 1400 miles from home). I was able to visit and hike in all five National Parks in that state and drive by various State Parks and National Monuments.
It was a great trip, if a bit short, and one I'm very happy I took.
Here are some of my favorite pictures from the week: (The full set is here). read more »
